Tyler Kahmann - Fall 2022

Thank you very much for the generous donation to the bridging foundation that has helped to make my study abroad experience possible! I am truly grateful to have been selected as a nominee.

So far I’ve learned so much actually living in Japan, both about the country and about myself. I’ve had so many great experiences in these first few months alone and I really look forward to the rest of my time here. Exploring Tokyo is something I haven’t had much of a chance to do, as all of my previous visits were usually spent with family in my mothers small hometown. Having the opportunity to experience everything Tokyo has to offer on my own has truly been an incredible and eye opening privilege. I’ve tried a lot of great food, met some great people, and seen amazing things. Especially coming from a small town in Hawaii, having different seasons and a much larger geography as my sandbox has put me in a much broader world than before.

Regarding my future plans for my time here, I’m currently looking at a trip to further locations such as Osaka and Kyoto during the gap between the fall and spring semesters. I’ve been talking with some friends with whom I’ve made plans to travel, and we have some exciting things planned (visits to historical sites and towns, Universal Studios Japan, the works). I would also like to visit one of the colder prefectures to experience the snow day I’ve never had growing up. There’s a whole lot I’d like to do, and there are still more plans to be made. Until then, I have attached some of my favorite photos from these past few months below.

Thank you again,
Tyler Kahmann
